The Impact Covid Has Had On This Graduate Student

As a recent graduate, being an international student far away from home I'm facing a lot of issues from financial to anxiety while trying to survive the coronavirus crisis!

It’s difficult to put my feelings about all of this into words. The whole world feels as if it’s crumbling and yet we’re also experiencing extraordinary acts of kindness from our friends and neighbors.

There is anxiety around whether our loved ones will get sick, an overarching fear of the uncertainty of the situation, but I try to remain positive.

In some ways, it’s nice. Many of us have found ourselves blessed with the gift of time with few commitments—time to explore new hobbies and connect with old friends over FaceTime.

My family and I are following social distancing recommendations to the best of our ability, and doing everything online —however, I know quite a few students and families who still need to go out to workplaces, campus, or check on other family members.

In cases where there is no choice, where people have to go out for work we can prevent spreading within a particular organization by following some of the steps or guidelines given to us by WHO and the CDC. Such as social distancing, sanitizing, management system and contact tracing, etc. While we cannot completely protect all from this virus in every instance, Kokomo’s COVIDTracker solution is working to efficiently prevent the spread by contact tracing, self-reporting, and case management all in one.

Where Kokomo’s COVIDTracker integrates the daily health screening, health screening data management, automated contact tracing, and a case management workflow allows anyone to effectively monitor their organization's potential outbreaks and high-risk areas. I think simple precautions and planning can make a big difference. However, when you are dealing with large groups of people such as school campuses or workplaces, nothing is simple.

I believe contact tracing is the key to slowing the spread of Covid-19. Making people aware they may have been exposed to COVID-19 and should monitor their health for signs and symptoms of COVID-19. It promotes more testing for those who may have been exposed to COVID-19, asks people to self-isolate if they have COVID-19.

2020 has been a whirlwind for this international graduate student, but working with a team like Kokomo24/7 makes me proud and gives me hope in the prevention of this virus, and the safety of so many across the USA.
